Draft, pending legal review
This document was written by reading our own source code and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. We are publishing it in draft rather than publishing nothing, because a department deciding whether to authorize us deserves to see what we actually do with data even before the wording is final. If something here matters to your decision, ask us and we will answer in writing.

1. What this agreement covers
These terms cover your use of FireMic: this website, the app at app.fire-mic.com, and the free reference tools. Using any of them means you accept them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a fire department, you are saying you have the authority to do that.
2. What the product does
It records what you say about an incident, converts it to text, extracts structured NERIS fields from that text, shows them to you for review, and, when you tell it to, submits the report to NERIS on your department's behalf.
3. Who is responsible for what is filed
You are. This is the most important clause on the page and we would rather it be blunt than buried.
- A NERIS incident report is an official record filed by your department. Software prepared a draft; a person reviewed it and submitted it.
- Speech recognition and language models make mistakes. They mishear street names, they misclassify unusual calls, and they occasionally state something confidently that is wrong. The review step exists because of this, and it is not optional in the product for exactly that reason.
- We do not warrant that an extracted report is accurate or complete. We warrant that we will show it to you before it goes anywhere.
- If your department has a policy requiring officer review of reports, the product supports that. Turning it on is your decision, not ours.
4. Your department's authorization
- Filing into NERIS requires someone with the Admin role at your department to authorize us in NERIS. We cannot file for a department that has not done that, and we do not ask for anyone's NERIS password at any point.
- Your department can revoke that authorization in NERIS at any time, without going through us. When it does, we stop being able to file.
- The Client ID you paste into NERIS is not a secret and is published in our own documentation. Your NERIS login is a secret; do not give it to us or to anyone else.
5. The anonymous trial
- You can use it without an account, and it is free.
- A trial draft is deleted after 30 days unless you sign in and claim it.
- A trial draft cannot be filed to NERIS. That is a structural property of the system, not a policy we might waive.
- Do not record an incident you are not entitled to record. If your department's rules say incident information stays on department systems, the trial is a department decision, not an individual one.
6. Acceptable use
Do not:
- File reports for a department you are not a member of, or misrepresent who you are on a roster.
- Use the service to submit information you know to be false into a federal system.
- Attempt to reach another department's data, or to access accounts, drafts, or reports that are not yours.
- Automate, scrape, or resell the service, or run load against it that is not a person using it for its purpose. The free reference tools are another matter: link them, quote them, print them, teach from them.
7. What you keep
Your reports, transcripts, and attachments are your department's. We do not claim ownership of them. We use them to run the service for you, and anonymous trial recordings are excluded from any use in training a model, as described in the privacy policy.
8. Availability
There is no uptime guarantee today, and we would rather say that than offer one we cannot back with an on-call rotation. The service depends on third-party providers (speech recognition, the language model, our host, and NERIS itself) and any of them can be down. When NERIS is down, nobody can file; that is not something a vendor can engineer around.
9. Money
Current pricing is stated in one place: on the home page. Founding-rate departments keep their rate for as long as the subscription stays active. We will give notice before any price change and it will not be applied retroactively to a period you have already paid for.
10. Ending it
- You can stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your department's data.
- We can suspend an account for the acceptable-use reasons above. If we do, we will say why.
- Reports already filed into NERIS stay in NERIS. That is the point of filing them.
11. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. If you have paid us nothing (because you are on the trial or on free months), that is a real consequence of a free service and you should weigh it.
Nothing here is intended to limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
12. Changes to these terms
We will post changes here with a new date. For changes that materially affect a paying department, we will tell that department directly rather than relying on this page.
